The deportees with nowhere to go

Just under 60,000 undocumented migrants were deposited in Tijuana, Mexico, from the US last year. Guardian photographer Felix Clay has been to Tijuana to document the deportees, soup kitchens and the homes of those who had built a life in America. See more

This just has to stop - such a shame for a nation built from immigration.

This is my sister, Marilyn Marie Fenwick. She is MISSING in South Korea.

I don’t know all the details of the circumstances of her disappearance, but I’ll give you everything I do know. First some physical description.

She is 24 years old. She occasionally presents herself as male. She is approximately 5’2” or around 160cm tall. She weighs under 100 pounds and has a very slim build. She is flat chested but sometimes wears push up bras. Her skin is a light olive tone. She has colored black hair of uneven length and she also wears extensions occasionally. Her eyes are hazel but she sometimes wears colored circle lenses. She is from Amarillo, Texas, but she may also say she’s from the Dallas-Fort Worth area. She is very skinny and unlikely to be able to defend herself. The photos above show what she looked like the day she left the US.

Now for some details on her disappearance.

On April 15th, 2014, she left the Rick Husband Airport in Amarillo, Texas. She had one stop in Houston and a layover in San Francisco from where her plane departed for Seoul, South Korea around 10-11am PST. THIS IS THE LAST TIME ANYONE HEARD FROM HER. She went to visit a friend or boyfriend in Pohang, South Korea. His name is Jin and he allegedly works in construction and does cosmetics on the side. The US embassy informed us that cosmetics are a common ploy for human trafficking in South Korea.. We are assuming she made it to Seoul because she last texted me right before take off but we have no idea if she made it to Pohang or not. The US Embassy has been contacted and I believe the FBI may be getting involved. There is reasonable cause for concern that she is in danger as she has made no attempts to contact anyone.

The following is contact information Marilyn sent us about Jin. We attempted to call the phone number but a female voiced answer machine was all we could reach. If you know anything about this phone number or address, please contact the authorities and tell me if at all possible. I will relay any information to my father and he will send it through the necessary channels.

Elysian 307, Cheolgang-ro 713-12, ocheon-eup, nam-bu, pohang-si, gyeongsangbuk-do, south korea.

Marilyn has a twitter account which she was supposed to use to contact us but she has not used it since jokingly replying to me when she created it. The account is @explodingwolves she also has a phone number +14692697692 but she disconnected before leaving because it was a US locked phone.

Please help get the information out. Reblog, cross post, translate, tell your cat, ANYTHING to get the word out. She and I have our differences, but I want her to be safe. We’ve even gotten our estranged mother involved because in the end, none of our differences matter. Again, let me or the authorities know if you have any information. I appreciate your time.

I Don’t Want To Grow Up

On Photo Social Security Cards

whytuesday:

Last week, Why Tuesday? co-founder and civil rights leader Andrew Young called upon the Social Security Administration to issue optional Social Security cards with photographs. Young argues that such cards could provide government-issued photo ID for at least some of the estimated 11% of Americans who are currently disenfranchised by strict photo ID laws. While attracting support from two former presidents, President Clinton and President Carter, this proposal has also sparked contentious debate nationwide—including within Why Tuesday?’s own leadership.

Let’s be clear: Why Tuesday? opposes restrictive voting laws, including strict photo ID laws. Since its founding, Why Tuesday? has sought to stimulate debate about ways to make voting easier. Adding photos to social security cards is one idea for alleviating burdens on the right to vote—it thus deserves the robust conversation it has inspired. Other reforms are similarly worthy of our immediate attention, including moving Election Day to the weekend, instituting a federal early voting period, creating a universal voter registration system, mandating Election Day registration and updating our country’s electronic voting equipment. Why Tuesday? welcomes a national dialogue about these ideas—and more—as we approach the 2014 elections.

Share your opinions, questions and reform proposals with us here. What do you think?

Your Social Security Card is not supposed to be a national ID - it used to be treated so but now, your Social is no long on your Driver’s Lic and many other documents to protect privacy!

Students who still have a lot ahead of them. Students like me, who still have dreams, goals, and students who still aim for achievements. But because of this tragedy, it all faded away.

I bow and salute to the brave students who saved the lives of others and sacrificed themselves. They are heroes. They are people who deserves a lot better than awards. They deserve to be in Heaven, a place full of happiness and there will be no more sufferings. I also pray for the lives of the family and the people involved in this accident and specially the souls of these heroes.

I hope that the students who were saved by these mighty students will live their lives to the fullest, achieve their dreams and goals and love their family more. I also wish that they will live being inspired by the heroes who saved their lives. Please do so.

And for the captain, my middle finger salutes you. Live well. In guilt. Thank you.

The Pretend Complexity of the Nevada Cattle-Grazing Dispute – NYTimes.com – NYTimes.com

This is a pretty straightforward situation—unless you’re an anti-government libertarian, or an anti-government libertarian who aspires to one day run the government.

“This is a real, I think, intellectual and constitutional and legal debate,” Senator Rand Paul told Fox News, “but it shouldn’t be about violence of arms, and I hope that the government will not be there in full arms and provoke a…

Thug government and rule? Yes!

Israeli forces on Friday raided the municipality building of a Hebron village and seized a hard drive containing footage from security cameras, local officials said. Idhna village spokesman Abdul Rahman al-Tumeizi told Ma’an that five military jeeps carrying dozens of soldiers raided the building and seized municipality property. The soldiers threatened to blow up the gate leading to the building if municipality officials did not comply, the spokesman said. During the raid, some 200 settlers tried to enter the village but were repeatedly stopped by Israeli forces. The raid is thought to be related to the recent killing of an Israeli settler in the surrounding area.

An artist in Zhuzhou, Hunan province spent five days completing this tattoo portraying part of the famous Chinese painting “Along the River during the Qingming Festival” (清明上河圖). The original painting, attributed to artist Zhang Zeduan (1085-1145), captures scenery of life from the Song period in Henan and is one of China’s most renowned pieces of art. The tattoo measures 50 centimeters long and 38 centimeters wide and makes history look badass, or whatever. (via Photo of the Day: Man gets famous Chinese painting tattooed across back: Shanghaiist)
